How We Started
Martial Arts Ohio LLC was formed by the commitment of two friends, Jack Edwards and
Boyd Kumher, who began their Kuk Sool Won training together in the early 1990s. Later that same decade their lives took separate paths as Edwards re-enlisted in the Marine Corps and Kumher went on to get married and start a family. It was 12 years later when the two friends once again crossed paths and decided that the time was right to go into business together. Martial Arts Ohio, LLC is headquartered in Garrettsville Ohio and currently operates two martial arts studios in Portage County Ohio; one studio in the city of Garrettsville and the other studio in the city of Kent.
Our Goal
It is our goal to promote a better society and enhance the quality of life of our students through the regular practice of martial arts.
What We Offer
Our schools offer training in Kuk Sool Won™ under franchise agreements from The World Kuk Sool Association. Kuk Sool Won™ is a systematic study of all of the traditional fighting arts, which together comprise the martial arts history of Korea. As a martial arts system, Kuk Sool Won™ is extremely well-organized; and seeks to integrate and explore the entire spectrum of established Asian fighting arts and body conditioning techniques, as well as mental development and traditional weapons training.
Jack Edwards
Head Instructor
Jack Edwards began his study of Kuk Sool Won in Northeast Ohio in 1993 and earned his first degree black belt in 1997. Edwards has gone on to earn his second degree black belt (2003) and began independently teaching Kuk Sool Won in 2004.
Edwards is a husband and father of two. Besides his obvious love of martial arts, Edwards enjoys staying in touch with his artistic side through woodworking and woodcarving.
Those that know Edwards well understand that he has dedicated his life to his family and the betterment of society through the practice of martial arts. The operation of Martial Arts Ohio is Edward's full time professional endeavor.
